2013 CIMA Syllabus

CIMA updates their syllabus and study material every five years. The syllabus that students are currently studying is the 2010 syllabus and there will be a new syllabus again in 2015.

 

Currently the CIMA Qualifications comprises of the Certificate in Business Accounting, three Professional levels in Operations, Management and Strategy with the final level being an assessment of work experience and a written case study examination. All the course material and question papers are relevant to the industry as it currently operates. That is why the syllabus changes once every five years, to ensure that new business developments and practices as well as new statistics can be included while older, irrelevant information can get taken out. This way the course material and qualification is always of the most relevant standard and highest quality.

 

What do these CIMA Qualifications entail?

  • CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting

The CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting is the best programme for students who are new to the field of business or accounting as it provides them with a good overview of all areas involved in accounting in business. This is step one towards becoming a Chartered Management Accountant.

The subjects for the Certificate Level are the following:

  • Fundamentals of Management accounting;
  • Fundamentals of Financial Accounting;
  • Fundamentals of Business Mathematics;
  • Fundamentals of Business Economics; and
  • Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate Governance and Business Law.

 

  •  ·       CIMA Professional Qualification: Operational Level

 

The first of three professional level qualifications is the CIMA Professional Qualification: Operational Level. The subjects it deals with include business ethics, making forecasts based on financial data, and reporting findings made through auditing. 

The three exam papers prescribed at Operational Level are the following:

  • Paper E1 – Enterprise Operations;
  • Paper P1 – Performance Operations; and
  • Paper F1 – Financial Operations.

 

  • CIMA Professional Qualification: Managerial Level

 

The second of three professional level qualifications is the CIMA Professional Qualification: Managerial Level. It teaches students aspects of management like project management, budgeting and analysing financial statements.

The three exam papers prescribed at Managerial Level are the following:

  • Paper E2 – Enterprise Management;
  • Paper P2 – Performance Management; and
  • Paper F2 – Financial Management.

 

  •  ·         CIMA Professional Qualification: Strategic Level

 

The third and final professional level qualification is the CIMA Professional Qualification: Strategic Level. It teaches students how to strategise by doing performance assessment, changing financial strategies, and risk management.

The three exam papers prescribed at Strategic Level are the following:

  • Paper E3 – Enterprise Strategy;
  • Paper P3 – Performance Strategy; and
  • Paper F3 – Financial Strategy.

 

  •  ·         CIMA Professional Competence: T4 part (A) and T4 part (B)

 

T4 part (A) and T4 part (B) is short for the Test of Professional Competence in Management Accounting. This is the final level that towards the CIMA Professional Qualification and its level of assessment makes it a very sought after distinction that is respected worldwide. 

It has two parts:

  1. Students must have three years of relevant work experience; and
  2. Students must write a case study exam to solve a business problem.
